It may not feel like spring yet, but this is when I usually start going easy on the SM play so that the marks will have time to fade before the hot weather arrives for showing more skin.
I guess I have some feelings about making passers by concerned about obvious welts and so forth. An interestingly placed mark or two can be fun, but mostly I have fewer SM experiences in summer, and I've never really been happy about this.
Do any of you do this too? How do you feel about it? If you don't handle it this way, what do you do about the marks instead?
My thoughts on the matter would be that since extended time in the sun is known to be detrimental to the skin, you could choose a bit more covered up approach with that as your reasoning to others, if you wished to explain yourself. And if you want a minimum of tan lines, just remember the SPF 30-50 on your exposed legs, arms, neck, and face.
Besides, pale is haaaawt!
There are some great retro style bathing suits out these days. Some 40's style with the longer legs on the bottoms and some 30's style with the cute little skirt. Either of those and many others should cover marks well and still allow you to swim enjoyably. Just ask whomever you play with to avoid the backs of your thighs with the cane (or similar) and you'll be good. That way you don't have to avoid fun play over the summer just for appearances.
Or alternatively, if you swim somewhere predominantly adult oriented, wear your marks proudly and if someone asks you inappropriate questions about them, tell them that taking a good beating makes you come like a fountain and then sit back and enjoy the look on their face. LOL
I have my slave wear her skimpiest bikini to her tanning sessions. Then, after tan lines are formed, I only mark her in the minimal white areas that will be covered by fabric. It keeps her (and me!) free from any hushed speculation and it also provides me a template from which to work, plus welts forming on lilly white skin adjacent to tanned skin is quite a visual turn on!
